Kingston University

United Kingdom

Overview

Why choose this course?

This course explores and investigates current visual communication methods and processes, helping to further develop your practice and approach to graphic design. It focuses on independent research and enquiry to understand the importance of the visual designer’s place in culture. The teaching of disciplinary and interdisciplinary models of thinking will provide a strong basis for your in-depth studies on the course. Problem-solving, research skills and critical thinking are essential to gaining long-term employment, as understanding design’s ever-changing global, technological and social background is key. Led by experienced academics who are also practicing designers and researchers, you will have the opportunity to attend studio visits, hear from industry speakers, and take part in live projects, talks, competitions and workshops.

What you will study

Projects will provide an opportunity to refine and expand your current working approaches. The significance of research in sustaining your activity will be examined, and you will be inspired to establish your visual language and ‘resources’ in reaction to particular instructions for each module. In the concluding part of the course, you will devise and create your individual major project.

You will be strongly urged to cultivate an informed and imaginative approach, taking into consideration recent research, current industry, and design protocols.
