Overview

This MSc in Medical Devices Engineering is designed for those with an engineering background who wish to use their existing knowledge and skills to develop medical devices. It is an interdisciplinary program combining engineering principles and biomedical applications. Graduates will be well-equipped to work in the biomedical engineering field domestically and overseas. The course will also cover device regulatory aspects and biomedical ethics, both important foundations of engineering and biomedical practices.

WHY THIS PROGRAMME

Biomedical Engineering, the newest addition to the School of Engineering, has long been a focus of expertise. Research concentrates on four key areas: Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Bio-nano-technology, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biosensors, and Diagnostics. Our students benefit from the close link with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, with medical device regulations taught by practitioners from the local NHS Medical Devices Unit. The optional Nanofabrication course also gives them access to Glasgow’s world-leading James Watt Nanofabrication facilities.

CAREER PROSPECTS

This program is designed to prepare graduates for biomedical engineering employment in the UK and abroad. Core topics such as regulatory requirements and biomedical ethics will be covered, providing a solid base for potential regulatory jobs.
